The Right to a standard of living adequate and safe is directly related to other human rights. Without a decent habitat that assures good quality of life, the human being is subjected to illnesses, social degradation, damage to family relationships, marginalization of social conviviality, among other issues. In Latin America and Caribbean region, more than 134 million people live in inadequate settlements and this number tends to increase.


Aiming to provide both an opportunity to discuss and exchange of experiences concerning to the inadequate habitation issue in Latin America context, Habitat for Humanity Brazil, in partnership with the National Forum of the Urban Reformation, UN-Habitat, Swedish Cooperative Center, Habitat International Coalition and Hábitat para la Humanidad America Latina y el Caribe, helds in São Paulo, Brazil, in November 21st- 24th 2006, the International Seminar "Social Production of Habitat - Strategies for the Elimination of the Inadequate Housing in Latin America Context".

This event has the goal of promoting the meeting between different social actors, both National and International Organisms, Forums of Citizen Articulation and Mobilization, Social Movements of Fight for Affordable Housing, Non-Governmental Organizations, Governments, Universities, Companies, Research Centers and Specialists, in order to argue and to articulate strategies from the organizations and social mobilization in an event of continental scope about the Social Production of Habitat and its complete and sustainable urban development.


The Seminar will be a moment of reflection and knowledge about housing problems with real and viable proposals of solutions due to the theme. This is a chance of interchange of informations and experiences in a system of networking that may bases the establishment and strengthening of discussion nets and regional relationships.
